Festivals and Farmers Markets

If any of you were at the Phish Superball or Dave Matthews Band Caravan festivals, you know that we worked really hard to make sure that local farmers and vendors were around to feed you yummy, local, sustainable goodies.

As this was the first time we've coordinated a farmers market at a music festival, we were very pleased at how well it was received by fans and farmers alike! Here are a few awesome reasons we worked so hard to pull it all together:

  • Local food is easier on the environment because it travels fewer CO2-producing miles to get from the ground to your belly.
  • The farmers we choose to work with grow their food in a responsible way that doesn't detroy the earth with things like pesticides. We like supporting them!
  • Local food tastes delicious because it's fresh and in-season. That's why you won't see any bananas, but you will see lots of cherries, berries, and (a bit later) apples. Yum.
  • Supporting local food means supporting your local economy. Good news for everyone!

We were pleased to work with the following farmers and vendors:

Even if you didn't make it out to one of the festivals this summer, there are plenty of opportunity to support local farms at home. Not sure where to start? Check out LocalHarvest to find farmers markets, CSAs and more in your community.

Farmers markets at music festivals. It's the next big thing.
