Ben & Jerry's is proud to be partnering with student leaders and activists on campuses to build awareness and support for the global Fair Trade movement. We are adding our voice to the call for more Fair Trade products on campus: in dining halls, snack kiosks, campus markets, and cafés.
The Fair Trade movement is, at its heart, a movement for social and economic justice. By guaranteeing a fair price to small-scale farmers and artisans in developing countries – such as coffee growers, banana farmers, and craftspeople – Fair Trade helps create a hopeful future in some of the poorest places in the world. Fair Trade also commits farmers to pursuing sustainable agricultural practices and using fair labor practices.
When Fair Trade products are available on campus, the university community can demonstrate its commitment to justice in the marketplace – and make sure that the global economy is serving the needs of people, not the other way around.
Ben & Jerry's is excited to be a part of this movement. We already source Fair Trade vanilla, cocoa, and coffee for several of our ice cream flavors. By 2013, every flavor we make will use Fair Trade Certified ingredients.
