JOIN THE CAUSE:
Our lives – driving our cars, powering our homes
and businesses, coming on this cruise – all
cause CO2 pollution, the leading cause of global warming.
CO2
offsetting is a way to reduce our contribution to
global warming. To put it in context, even if you
use a fuel-efficient car, you still will use some
gas, so you’ll be responsible for some CO2 pollution.
You probably can’t go totally without driving,
so to have a zero impact on the climate you have to
do something else that reduces CO2 pollution. Some
people plant trees, which take CO2 out of the air.
With NativeEnergy, you help “plant” wind
farms and other clean renewable energy projects, which
stop CO2 from ever getting into the air and reduce
our use of fossil fuels.
Through all of us working to offset the carbon emissions
from this cruise, our donations will help build a
new Native American wind farm by bringing critical
funding to it up front, when the project needs it
the most.
These projects will deliver clean renewable electricity
to the regional power grid, displacing electricity
that would otherwise be generated by burning coal,
oil and natural gas. By causing less fossil fuel to
be burned to generate electricity, we’ll help
reduce greenhouse gas pollution – mainly CO2.
With our collective donation, we’ll keep your
share of CO2 out of the air and fight global warming!
Carnival Cruise Lines and Barenaked Planet
have some great environmental efforts in place that
you can be a part of. Other Eco-Efforts onboard the
SHIP:
• recycling of aluminum, glass and plastics
• use of china and cloth napkins
• towel and linen re-use program
• use of recycled facial tissue and toilet tissue
(donated by Seventh Generation)
• use of fair trade, organic coffee in all dining
areas (donated by Green Mountain Coffee Roasters)
• use compostable corn plastic straws
HOW YOU CAN
HELP:
| • |
Turn off the air when you leave
your room. |
| • |
Close your curtains in your
room when you leave it to maintain a comfortable
temperature, and so more energy isn’t needed
to keep the room cool. |
| • |
Recycle wherever and whenever
you can.
Place your towels back on the rack after use so
that you can help.
Decrease the amount of wastewater on board. |
| • |
Ask the bartender not to give
you a straw; these can blow away and end up in
the ocean. |
| • |
When ordering a beer with a
lime, squeeze the lime into the bottle and then
discard. A bottle with a lime stuck inside of
it cannot be recycled (who knew?). |
| • |
Buy eco-friendly sunscreen
as they’re less toxic for you and the environment. |
| •
|
Buy renewable energy credits |
